Moulin Rouge! Clothes and Style Look

All outfits were designed by Catherine Martin who picked up an Oscar and many other awards and nominations for Best Costume design.

The wardrobe department created three hundred costumes and, at one point, eighty people were employed for this task.

The 30 can-can dresses had 5 or 6 ruffles measuring 66 feet each, around 390 feet of ruffle for each skirt. It took one person a week to gather just the ruffles into each can-can skirt.

Satine's "Pink Bird" costume took six months to make, the feathers were hand-dyed and the crystals all hand-applied.

And for anyone wanting to recreate the Moulin Rouge! look, here are a few style essentials -

A corset is a must for anyone who wants to copy Satine's sexy look, Rigby and Peller does, some great ones.

Colors that are good for the Moulin Rouge! look are red, black and white.

Boning is an essential to pull off this look, it'll give you a great hourglass shape that suits that era perfectly.

Satin, silk and lace are all materials that give instant glam and are seen throughout the film.

Finish off the look with a pair of fishnets, which you can get from Agent Provocateur, you'll also be able to pick up some sexy underwear their too and they do great marabou feather slippers that will help finish off the look perfectly.

For anyone wanting to go all out and play dress up you can get some replicas of Satine's outfits check out this website, it has recreations of the red satin dress (pictured left), two of her showgirl outfits and the Hindi wedding gown.
