 Rita Hayworth Hair Style

Rita's natural hair colour was a very dark brown but it was when she went red she hit the big time. Before Rita, many female stars stuck with their trademark color and never tried out anything different but Rita had been red, brown, black, blonde and various shades inbetween.

Suits - This style is flattening on almost any face shape

Colour - A rusty red shade

Best For - Thick hair, a head of fine hair will create a different sort of look. It's also better if your hair is almost all one length, again a different effect will be created if the hair is obviously made up of varying lengths.

First wash your hair and blow dry it with some styling serum, so you have a smooth and frizz free base. Once your hair is about 90% dry, put in some hot rollers, large ones preferably, and wrap the hair up and around to the crown. It is important the hair is not too damp because just a little bit of moisture in the hair could cause this look not to work.

Once all the hair has been curled brush it very gently through the roots. The hair at the top should be straight, leaving your bouncing curls below.  It's important you do not brush the curls because this could also ruin them. If they need a little styling and neatening up use a fine comb (a French one for example) and just gentle use it on the areas where necessary.

When you are happy with your style give it a generous spray all over with some hairspray. L'Oreal Elnett is always perfect for that classic feel.

 Rita Hayworth Trivia

When asked in an interview, what was the secret to keeping Rita's hair is such wonderful condition, her hairdresser Helen Hunt (not the actress, of course) said: "I believe in oil shampoos, lots of them, and in towel-drying the hair rather than sitting under a dryer."

Back when she was a starlet, Rita had electrolysis to change her hairline.  Helen said it had always been a problem: "The cameramen were always after me to lighten her hair."  And she used to bleach the front of Rita's hair to make it less prominent.

Rita's husband at the time, Ed Judson, was keen to get her career up and running and took pictures of her to the Electrolysis Association of America where Helen says they, "blew them up, and drew lines indicating where the hairline was and where it should be."

The process of the electrolysis was very slow and painful for Rita but the result was significant.
