Marlene's
look is very old fashioned but still glamorous, and to get it though you may
have to go to some extremes -
Firstly some serious work is required for the
eyebrow look. Marlene plucked her eyebrows until they were extremely thin, would
blot out any trace of them with powder then drew in some highly arched ones with
a pencil. For this look, draw them quite a bit above where your natural brow
would sit.
Her skin looks flawless but quite matted, so
first put on some matt foundation then apply a face powder over the top.
To get Marlene's bedroom eyes get a grey eye
shadow and cover your eyelid with it, then get a darker grey and blend it right
into the socket bone. Line the top lid with a black eyeliner and apply some
large false eyelashes, then finish with some black curling
mascara.
Keep
the bottom lash line totally clean, this will give the illusion of a very big,
open eye and for an extra touch line the the inside of your bottom eyelid with
some white liner. You can see in the color picture on the left that Marlene used
this trick. (You can also read why she didn't emphasise her lower lashes below)
Marlene would place her lashes on the outer edge
of her lash line to give the upward slanting look.
She was famed for her very prominent cheekbones.
To get her look apply a blusher, slightly darker than
your natural skin tone right underneath your cheekbone, then get a nice
natural-colored blusher and brush up and along the bone.
The lips should be lined slightly out of the
natural line, then filled in with a dark red lipstick. Finish with a dab of
gloss on the centre of the bottom lip.
