Suiting Oval-Shaped
Faces
|

Features - The widest
part of an ovals face is their forehead, then it gets gradually
thinner as it goes down, with the chin being the slimmest part.
Famous
Ovals -
Elizabeth Hurley, Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Christina Aguilera, Kim
Kardashian
Suits - Almost any style - all the
tricks used on other face shapes are to make them look more oval. Low side
buns look excellent on oval faces.
Check below for some hairstyles and cuts here that are
perfectly suited to oval-shaped faces.

The
Look - Versatile CropWhy it Works -
Shows off a perfect oval shape to perfection.
Take a pic of the cut you want to your hairdresser to show them
exactly what you want.
Rihanna's style is short on the sides but this is no boring
crop; the long length at the top can be curled,
quiffed, slicked back and
worn a variety of ways.
To style into Rihanna's sleek look (right), work a little
pomade into the roots and along to the ends.
For the curly style, seen at the 2010 Grammy Awards, use a
medium-barreled curling iron and wrap up sections (about the width of two
fingers) going right to the roots.

To ensure long hold, let the curls set once created, then
release them and finish the look with a burst of hairspray.
If you're growing out this style it also looks great when
styled sleek like on Emma Watson.

The Look - Volumized Bob
Seen On - Linda Evangelista
and Paris Hilton
To get this cut ask your hairdresser for a
chin-length bob, which has a light eye skimming fringe.
To style wash your hair and apply some
volumising mousse throughout.
Blow-dry with a round brush,
using it to add some height at the crown and to turn your hair under
at the ends.
Finish with some hairspray to keep
everything in place.

Wash your hair and apply a setting lotion as
it will help your hair hold the curls
When you're ready to style, create a side
parting and begin to blow dry your hair brush to end height and shape
Don't completely dry your hair, leaving it
5-10% damp and use large hot rollers, rolling your hair up and under to get
Dita's glossy curls rather than a flicked out 'do.
When the rollers cool, remove them carefully
and apply a lot of hairspray, such as the classic L'Oreal Elnett to finish.

To get this look apply
John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum, to towel
dried hair then dry with a diffuser.
Section off your hair ear to ear and use a small curling iron to create a
mass of tumbling ringlets around your face. Twist the back section of hair
into a tight tube and secure with a bobby pin.
Tong the ends and finish by raking some wax through your hair to break up the
curls, then randomly pin up some tendrils, so just a few hang around your face.

The Look - Perfect Ballet
Bun
Why it Works - While some
face shapes work better with face-framing layers, ovals are better
when show-casing their fab face shape, and this is the perfect style
for that.
This look requires super-sleek
hair so, if you've got natural curls or waves, begin by blow-drying
with a paddle brush. If your hair is naturally straight you
could probably skip this part.
Brush the hair back and make sure
it's perfectly smooth at the top and sides before pulling it into a
high ponytail, securing it with a hair band.
Wrap the hair over the band, up into a bun, securing with bobby pins
as you go.
Use a gloss-enhancing hair spray at the end to make sure the style
lasts all night.

For a slight twist on the classic
look, you can mix up your parting and play with where you place the
bun, a la Natalie Portman.

The Look - Side-swept curls
Why It Works - Another look that's
perfect for show-casing perfect structure and fab earrings.
For a curly look like Milla Jovovich's, first
apply some styling mousse or serum to damp hair before blow-drying with a round
brush to add a touch of height and body.
Set the hair with rollers, pointing up
and away from the face.
Once the hair has cooled and curls have
set, remove the rollers and create a deep side part on the side of your choice.
Whichever side has the least amount of
hair, sweep around behind the neck and over the shoulder, using some crisscrossed
hair pins to keep the style in place.
Let the curls on the other side fall naturally, and finish
by misting the look with some strong finishing spray.

Seen - On January Jones
at the 2009 Golden Globe
Awards
January's hairstylist for the event, Mark
Townsend, began by applying mousse to January's wet hair then blow-dried it.
He created her side-parting and spritzed
on some heat protection spray before wrapping sections around a medium-sized
curling iron - going up to about eye height.
The curls were pinned to the head to allow
them to cool and set.
Once released, he brushed through the
curls and finished January's styles with lacquer spray for extra shine and hold.

The Look - Full Ponytail Seen On - Jennifer
Lopez and Ariana Grande
Why it Works - Exposes fab cheekbones and shape
while the hair at the fab acts like a great showcasing background.
Start by blow-drying your hair straight using a round
brush and a blob of straightening cream like
Paul Mitchell Straight Works .
Once your hair is totally dry, smooth a little
John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum through the
length of your hair and at the top to stop any fly ends escaping.
Now sweep your hair into a smooth ponytail, using a clip
which you can get from Claire's Accessories,
to fasten it.
Finish by pulling sections of your pony forwards, to frame
your face.

Seen At - The 2010 Grammy
Awards
Beyonce was styled by
Kimberley Kimble for the event, who began by blow-drying Beyonce's
hair using a flat-paddle brush.
A side-parting was created and
for extra straightness, a flat-iron was ran over the length of the
hair.
For the shimmery glitzy,
strands of Bella Via Hair Glitter were tied in.

Seen - On Charlize Theron at the 2006 Academy Awards
For this look apply some volumising mousse to her wet hair
and some texturising spray at the back section.
Blow-dry, using a round brush to boost height and
straighten out the front section before bouncing it out slightly at
the ends.
Once completely dry, part the hair slightly off
centre leaving the front completely straight before brushing the
rest back and back-combing it to achieve height, spraying with
hairspray as you go.
Once you feel you have enough height, gather the
hair at the back into a simple bun or chignon, pinning it into place
and securing with another burst of hairspray.

The Look - Long Bangs
Why it Works - If you're an oval with a
high forehead this is a perfect look for you.
For this look, comb your hair
back into a sleek ponytail - for Kim's exact look, run some
straighteners over the length for her polished finish.
When it comes to the bangs, various brands make
clip-ins but
Ken Paves and Jessica Simpson's Hairdo.
range clip-ons are probably some of the best out
there.
The Hairdo.
clip-on bangs have three pressure
sensitive points that you simple have to press on. They come
in a range of shades and come quite long so you can also cut them to
suit yourself.

Another fun look for high forehead ovals is this
fab one from Heather Morris. For this up-do texture and volume at the back
is required. Leaving the front part of your hair and crown
completely straight set to back-combing some volume and height into
the back section of the crown.
A good trick for the back combing part is to
get a thin head band and slide it on, pushing the hair back to where
you want to start creating height from.
With the hair boosted, gather the hair at the
back and pin into a low loose bun, making sure not to ruin the
volume at the top.
There aren't many pictures of Heather at this
event so it's unclear whether her braid is an add-in or real but you
can get the look with the
Sephora Collection Thick Braidie Headband
($10.00 at amazon and available in five different colors), using it
to replace the head band if you decided to use one earlier in the
earlier step.
Pin the braid into place with two
criss-crossed hair pins on each side of the head, and finish with a
good mist of hairspray.

For this look, start by creating some loose
curls using curling irons, velcro rollers, heated rollers or
whatever you prefer.
Create a centre parting and take the section
at each side, pinning it at back using simple kirby grips or
something fancier if the occasion calls for it.
Heidi's curls aren't just tumbling ringlets
though, she has them mussed up and full of texture and volume; get
the look by spraying them with texturizing spray (one that will work
on wet or dry hair) and use your fingers to scrunch and boost some
volume through the lengths.

For this style, start by pulling
your hair up into a high ponytail (make sure the hair on top of the
head is still loose and not totally tight) and secure with a hair
elastic.
Tease the hair in the ponytail to add lots of volume and texture,
spraying it lightly with hairspray as you go.
Wrap the hair into a loose bun securing with bobby pins. If
you still don't have the same bulk as Kim
you can cheat and wrap your hair around a sponge (it's possible Kim
is wearing one anyway).
Use a strong-hold finishing spray at the end to make sure the style
lasts all night.
Kim's hair is a little static and
frizzy-looking at the back of the bun, this is a common effect of
back-combing or teasing but you can use a touch of hairspray to
smooth and pat it down.

The Look - Glam side-plait
Liv's side plait style looks fairly simple but
with it's full volume, it can be a little tricky to achieve unless
you've got lots of hair or thick extensions.
To get this style, begin by applying a volumizing
mousse into damp hair. You can blow-dry with a round brush if
you need to, or leave it to dry naturally which will encourage some
volume.
Once the hair is dry, back-combing is key.
Boost the volume at the crown and roots then gather the hair, ready
to create your side plait.
Tease the hair throughout the length to increase
the volume then create your plait - tying it loosely rather than
plaiting it tight.

Seen at - The 2011 Do
Something Awards in August 2011 Kim’s sleek
ponytail do is fairly simple if you've
got naturally straight hair; just create your part and slick it back into a high ponytail
then secure.
For naturally curly or wavy hair, though, it
takes a little more work -
Apply a little straightening balm to hair then
blow-dry with a paddle brush - creating a centre part and smoothing
out all kinks.
For a super sleek finish you could also use a straightening iron
- especially on the ends.
Once straight, pull the hair into a high ponytail
and secure with a discreet elastic.
For a fab finishing touch, spray a glossing
spray over the style for some added shine .

Seen at
- A charity event in April 2011
To create this look apply some
smoothing balm and blow-dry (not totally necessary if your hair is
straight).
Divide your hair at the back,
leaving the upper section loose to add oomph like Paris, while
gathering the rest up into a neat bun - pinning it into place.
Get the section of hair at the
top and backcomb it for volume. You might find a hairdo filler
very useful when creating this.
Once your happy with the style so
far get some hairspray, such as
L'Oreal Elnett Hairspray, and use
it to dab down any frizzy hairs.
Your finishing touch - Paris's
sweet braid - again calls for a little help.
Take a
Sephora Braided
Headband
(available in three different shades) and pin it around your
volumized bun - or secure into your hair filler if you used one.
