Suiting Heart-Shaped
Faces
|
Features - Hearts are
similar to round faces except they have high cheekbones, that
are slightly wider than the forehead. Foreheads are usually quite
high, and the face
ends in a
pointed chin or narrow jaw-line. Hearts also have cute cherubic cheeks when they
smile.Famous Hearts
-
Reese Witherspoon is a classic heart shape, Nicole Richie
Things to Try - Side partings; Sweeping
fringes/bangs; Jaw-length bob; Face framing layers
Things to Avoid - Flat hair with a
centre parting - has a totally widening effect on the face
Check the guides below for some perfect for heart-shaped
faces hair styles

The Look - Gamine Crop
Why this style works - Like CareyIt covers
the heart's high forehead, and leaves the fab high cheekbones and
sculpted chin on show.
Seen On - Emma Watson and Carey
Mulligan
If you're confident enough to go for a crop, take a picture of
the style you want to show your hairdresser
exactly what you're looking for.
When it comes to styling, blow-dry the hair forward at the
front and down at the sides with the nozzle pointing down to keep the hair flat
rather that sticking up.
Emma's hair has shine and sleekness yet doesn't look hard
or wet to the touch. To achieve this look apply a product such as
Umberto Giannini Sleek and Chic Serum Gloss.
For Carey's look apply a little texturisizing
spray and blow-dry flat with a paddle brush.
You can also smooth down any unruly or fly-away hairs
dabbing them down with just a touch of hairspray.

The Look - Chic Bob
Why it Works - These are perfect for
turning heart shapes into a highly-desirable oval shape.
Seen On - Most stars have rocked a bob
at one time or another.
Best for - If you're
going chic, straight hair is a must but bobs look great with waves
too (check out some mussy bobs below).
To style a perfect bob requires blow-drying for ultra slickness
and a non-frizzy finish, plus a little volume boost at
the roots.
When your hair is damp, apply
a little volumising mousse into the roots using your fingers, then
blow-dry using a round brush to create volume and use turn the
ends in ever so slightly.
Once dry, finish with a spritz
of shine spray.

The
Look - Touseled BobWhy it Works
- As mentioned above, bobs bring an oval-shaped illusion to
heart-shaped faces. Waves also help soften strong cheekbones
and jaw lines.
Good For- People with
naturally curly hair, thick or wavy hair.
To get this look you'll have to go to the
hairdressers and get a layered bob; the layers will maximize volume and texture.
Once washed a
short blast with the hair dryer is all it needs. If you want a more choppy
finish get some flat heated irons, such as
Morphy Richards Mark hill Kick It, to break up the ends of the hair and make it
kick out like Keira's.
Follow
with some
John Freida Tousled Tresses Texturizer,
a texturising wax in fab mist form, which will create a broken up piecy finish.

Some
more great bob styles for heart shaped face -
For Selita's flirty style, start by applying a good about of volumizing mousse to damp hair.
Blow-dry using a large round
brush, pulling the brush up and out from the face for the lengths
then flicking the hair out at the ends.
Create a side parting and back
comb the the roots of it going off into each direction for Selita's
volumous look.
Finish with a good mist of
volume hairspray - don't use too much though; this look shouldn't be
rock hard - it's all about movement.
For Hayley's cute retro curls, work a little mousse into wet hair then
blow-dry.
Create a deep side-parting, and use some medium-barrel
curling irons to go around the entire head, creating curls up to about forehead
height.
Hold the barrel vertically so the curls tumble down.
Finish with a hair slide to suit your style and lightly
mist with hairspray for extra hold.

The
Look - Flirty,
volumous ponytailWhy
It Works - The long bangs hide a wide foreheart and soften bold
cheekbones while the cute heart chin is still exposed.
Seen On - Emma Stone
rocked the look at the Captain
America premiere in July 2011
For this gorgeous look, your
hair needs to have a lot of volume. Apply to volumizing mousse
while it's wet then blow-dry using a large round brush.
Use the brush to section of
the hair at the front, and add some waves to the length at the back.
Once dry, back-comb the hair
behind the front section, giving it some oomph. before securing into
a high ponytail at the back.

For an extra flirty touch, use
some curling irons to add a little extra kick to the loose sections
at the front.
Finish with some strong-hold
hairspray - especially on the volumized section - try to leave the
ponytail and loose tendrils free though, as they should have a
little movement.

The Look - Sweet, Plaited Up-Do
Why It Works - The loose tendrils at the
front are key as they soften the cheekbones; this look would proably
be too harsh for heart-shapes otherwise.
Needs - Hair that isn't freshly washed;
and long hair, unless following
version 2.
Create a centre parting, and pull your hair
back, leaving some optional face-framing tendrils at the front.
Collect the hair at the back into a ponytail,
slightly to one side of the nape, and plait it into a loose braid,
securing at the end with a transparent band.
With the braid complete, wrap it up over the
head, pinning into the scalp with bobby pins as you go.

Version 2 - Buy a thick braided
headband, such as
the Sephora Collection Thick Braided Headband, and pin it to
you head the same way as you'd pin up a real one, putting your own
hair into a bun at the back.

The Look - Long Side-Sweeping Bangs
Seen On - Lea Michele and Taylor Momsen to name but a
few
Why It Works - The fringe
helps to disguise the heart's often high, wide foreheads.
To wear the look sleek and glossy like Lea, begin by
applying some frizz-ease serum to freshly washed and still damp hair.
Blow-dry using a large paddle brush. When completely
dry if you have any kinks left, run some straighteners over them - this will
help add shine too.
To style, create a side parting then adjust your fringe or
layers, leaving one eye sexily peeking from below.
Finish with some hairspray, again to add shine, and to reduce
frizz or flyaways.
For Taylor Momsen's rock chick style, hairstylist Fred Vandebunt
told Teen Vogue -
" I don't actually use a lot of product! I style it with
heat and let it cool down to set it. For Taylor, I sometimes put a little
Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray
on the roots to give it a little lift, seal the ends with some silicone,
and I might use some
Elnett Hairspray
to keep it all together."
The tools he uses - "blow-dryer, round brush, curling
irons, wave iron, straightener, and hands."
He also says when you what a certain style : "bring
pictures!! A picture says more than a two-hour conversation. That still doesn't
make it a rocker haircut though. You need to style it as a rocker too."
