Celebrity
Hair Styles - Red |
|
Natural red hair usually has brown tones making it a little
more auburn or a blonde tint making in strawberry blonde, but recently more and
more celebs have been sporting bright, vivid red hair like that seen on
cartoon's number one bombshell Jessica Rabbit.
Natural red hair is usually best with fair-medium skin and blue or green eyes
but Rihanna proves that this red can suit just about anyone with the confidence
to pull it off.
If your after a bright red look like Rihanna's it's best
to start with bleached or very light blonde hair as this will only show up the
red dye (see below for more info). Dye applied darker or black hair will
not turn out Rihanna's color but will give a more dark auburn or plummy shade.
It's worth mentioning though, that maintaining a look like Rihanna's can be very
damaging on the hair.
For a little inspiration, browse through some red
hairstyles.

The
Color - Rihanna Red
Just before Rihanna first began sporting the red look she
had worked up to a half black and half blonde style that the red could be
applied to for max color and impact.
Red dyes to try out for Rihanna's color are -
Or for a less permanent color try
L'Oreal's Casting Creme, in 565 Cherry
Red (Cheryl Cole used this color but had a less vivid effect due to her brown
hair base).

Seen At - The Whitehouse Correspondents Dinner in April 2011
Color - Scarlett's colorist Lorri Goddard-Clark
said of Scarlett's new shade: “I mixed one color for her scalp area and a
lighter version of that for the rest of her head. I then added fine brownish-red
lowlights throughout and put subtle highlights on her ends so that they don’t
look too inky.”
Style - This might be an easy style for this with
natural, subtle waves to achieve but if you don't have this style naturally,
follow the guide for Scarlett's 2011 Oscars 'do (below) but with a centre
parting instead, for a more sophisticated look.

Seen At - The 2011 Grammy Awards
Rihanna was styled by Ursula Stephen for the event, who
used a curling iron rather the a straightening iron to straighten and smooth
Rihanna's hair before curling the ends.
Rihanna's curls were pinned up as they cooled to help them
retain their shape longer.
Once the curls cooled, the pins were removed and allowed
to fall naturally how the wanted with the hair then teased into place with the
fingers to frame the face.
The style was completed with a few spritzs of styling
spray to lock in the style and to add some extra shine.

Suits - Almost
any face shape.
Color - A rich
auburn
To get this style Julia tamed her naturally curly
tresses and wore them nice and straight for a night.
First wash your hair, then apply a straightening
balm. Now blow-dry your hair and use a large round brush to turn the hair out a
little at the bottom.
Make a side parting and use a barrette, like
Julia's to keep your hair out of your face. Finish off with a liberal spray of
Charles Worthington Shine Shine Shine Spray to get Julia's glossy look.

The Look - Glam, bouncy ponytail
Seen At - Showing off her pretty face,
Ariana often wears this style and has wore it to events including
the Justin Bieber: Never Say Never Premiere in February 2011, and at
the Variety Awards in 2010

Blow-dry with a large round
brush, straightening the lengths but adding some movement at the
ends
The look at the Variety awards (right) was
slightly more curled at the ends; for that effect you can either use
and medium sized round brush, or used some tongs to create curls
just at the ends.

at - The Time Gala held in April, 2011
Color - Blake briefly went with this red
hue while filming a movie. Blake's colorist Rona O'Connor
layered the color rather than going for one solid shade.
Several shades of red were layered over each
other, Rona said: “I like to see lightness on top—flecks of golden
tones and bright coppers—with darker reds underneath to create
depth.” She said: “I kept the reds
rose-gold and coppery so that she can easily return to blond after
she wraps the movie.”
The Style - For these flowing, Hollywood
waves, first blow-dry the hair with a round brush for a smooth,
volumous base. Once almost totally dry,
create a side parting, and curl sections of about 2-3 inches up to
about brown height, using either large hot rollers or curling irons
- whichever you prefer.
Once curled all the way around, break the curls up a
little with your fingers but do not brush it through.
Complete with a good amount of hairspray all
over the head.

The Look - Side Swept Hollywood Curls
Seen At - The Premiere of Harry Potter and
the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in July 2011
For Ariana's glam waves, begin by applying some smoothing balm to
damp hair.
Create a side parting and blow-dry using a round brush to
smooth the hair while adding lots of volume at the roots.
Once dry, use a large-barrel curling iron, takin large
sections of hair at a time, wrapping them up to about eye-level.
If you've got the time, try to let the curls
cool as this will help them stay put for longer.
Smooth the curls through with your finger - don't
brush as it could ruin them - and finish with a mist of hairspray.

The Look - Fishtail Braid
Best For - Non-layered hair, lots of different
lengths in the hair can make this look a bit messy.
Papped out in late 2010, casual-looking Rihanna sported a
fishtail braid.
The fishtail style is probably the most complicated braid
if you've never done one before, so don't be put off if it doesn't turn out
right the first time - here's a few tips for getting the look.
Brush your hair through then gather it all in front of one
of your shoulders - it's easier for a right-hander to put it over the left
shoulder and vice-versa.
Divide the hair into two equal parts, hold one of the
sections between the middle and index finger, and the other between the middle
and ring finger of your less dominant hand.
Use your free hand for the braid creating. Take a
small section from the outside of the first part and place it in the section
held by your other fingers.
Now, pick up the same amount from the outside of the other
section and put it into the first (sounds complicated, right? If you check
out youtube you can find a few videos of people doing it - this still is much
easier to understand demonstrated than written out). Continue alternating
the strands from each section to the other until you're happy with the length of
the braid, then secure with a band of your choice.
