Face Shape Guide and Style Finder

Click on the celeb whose face shape you share to see a whole range of hairstyles, in various lengths and colors, to suit you.

Read below for definitions and how to tell which shape you are -

Heart Shape

Features - Hearts are similar to round faces except they have high cheekbones, that are slightly wider than the forehead. The face usually ends in a pointed chin or narrow jaw-line. Hearts also have cute cherubic cheeks when they smile.

Famous Hearts - Reese Witherspoon is a classic heart shape, Nicole Richie

Suits - Side partings; Sweeping fringes/bangs; Jaw-length bob;

Things to Avoid - Flat hair with a centre parting - has a totally widening effect on the face

Long

Features - Long faces are quite a bit longer than they are broad, they are usually very thin and have good bone structure. High, long cheekbones are a common feature.

Famous Longs - Sarah Jessica Parker, Eva Green

Suits - Unlike most others, long-shaped faces can get away with just about any fringe.

Things to Avoid - Letting your hair become too long - it enchances rather than hides your face length.

Oval Face Shape

Features - The widest part of an ovals face is their forehead, then it gets gradually thinner as it goes down, with the chin being the slimmest part.

Famous Ovals - Elizabeth Hurley, Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Christina Aguilera

Suits - Almost any style - all the tricks used on other face shapes are to make them look more oval.  Low side buns look excellent on oval faces.

Round

Features - Round faces have about the same lengths as their breadths. They, also like hearts, have cute chubby cheeks when the smile.  Forehead and cheeks are about the same width.

Famous Rounds - Cameron Diaz,  Jean Harlow, Kirsten Dunst

Suits - Long sweeping bangs like Cameron's.  Face-framing layers.

Things to Avoid - A full, eye-skimming fringe - they hit the wrong part of the face and the fullness will make the face look wider too.

Square

Features - The line from the forehead to the jaw is very straight, then it goes into quite a strong angular jaw. Sometimes the face can also be dominated by a strong forehead also.

Famous Squares - Sandra Bullock, Mena Suvari, Audrey Hepburn, Jennifer Aniston, Minnie Driver, Keira Knightley

Suits - Strong jaw lines and bone structures are common with lots of top models, just look at all the ad campaigns around; but if your not so confident rocking your strong features opt for face-framing layers that help to disguise them.  Waves also have a great softening effect

Things to Avoid - A Halle Berry-style crop
